Skálholt is a beautiful location in the south-west of Iceland.
It is close to the birthplace of Christianity in Iceland and the current church is the tenth on this site since its foundation in 1000AD. Excavations happen each year and there is a display of finds in the basement of the church. Next to it is a reconstruction of an ancient Icelandic building which is used as a small chapel during the day.
Close to the church are several residential buildings - all of which are available to us during our stay. The rooms and water are heated by geo-thermal energy and there is free WiFi in all the buildings.
